A father & son walking from adolescence into manhood
Five markers on the road from here to manhood.
The verses that anchor this journey — from first step to final blessing.
Prayed at the threshold — before a single page is filled.
I come to You at the beginning — before the first page of this notebook is filled, before the first lesson is taught, before the first ceremony is held. I am taking a step I cannot take alone, and I need You.
For the next six weeks, shape me. Mine my own story before I try to give wisdom to Beckham. Heal what needs healing. Surface what needs surfacing. Block the brokenness that would pass to him, and reveal the blessings I've inherited that I can carry forward. Give me courage to face what I've avoided and humility to receive what I've been given.
Over these next five years, make me the father Beckham needs — not the one who wings it, not the one who settles for reasonableness, but the one who shows up with intentionality, consistency, and presence. Guard me from distraction. Guard me from drift. When the chaos of life competes with the extraordinary, remind me what I resolved on this day.
For Beckham — I dedicate him to You. Turn my heart fully toward him, and turn his heart toward me and toward You. Walk with him through the liminal space between boyhood and manhood. Guard his heart, for everything in his life will flow from it. Give him courage when he is afraid, wisdom when he is uncertain, and the unshakable knowledge that he is seen, known, loved, and blessed. May he never have to spend his life searching for a blessing he already carries.
When we reach the end of this path — when it's time to welcome him into the community of men — let the words "well done" come naturally, because You carried us there. Let him leave home equipped, initiated, and blessed. And let me be a father who finished what he started.
May You be gracious to us and bless us and make Your face shine upon us. He who began this good work will carry it to completion. I trust You with it.
In the name of Jesus.
